Yep, you read that right: a completely transparent CD. Lorde actually did it – with her new release Virgin, she drops an album that’s not only sonically bold, but visually flips everything upside down.

According to early reports, this disc won’t play on most standard CD players. Honestly? Not that surprising. Regular CDs have an opaque back, a printed front, and a super sensitive data layer (fun fact, it’s the top that’s most fragile). This see-through marvel just ignores all that tradition.

I’ve got a few older CD players lying around, plus one high-end unit and it does seem to handle this futuristic disc. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The CD is currently on order, so we’ll find out soon enough whether the rumors hold up. Is it legit? Or just a beautiful piece of plastic?
